HelpBuilder provides a quick and easy method to create and maintain Windows Help files. Using a familiar point-and-click interface, help files can be created with advanced features as standard.
Pros: Built on top of the MS Help workshop and the HTML Help workshop, this package aims to easy the process of creating help documentation for the MS environment. Additionally one could build the additional types of documents, such as training manual, employee manuals etc, in a similar format.
Wizards are provided that simplify tasks such as creating a new project etc. These wizards make defining the structure of the document quite easy. The structure is defined through index numbers used with topic items/files. For the HTML help documentation one could define a sequence of topics that need to be viewed in one after the other. These definitions are then used to automatically build the final document. Some standard pages are added automatically such as a copyright notice, table of contents etc. One could choose to create the document in either HTML or the compiled formats. Spell checker and extensive error checks on build is available.
Cons: Operation of the project wizard is not very intuitive, the help documentation is not much help on the same either. In general, the interaction panel is not very intuitive. Some error messages are not very simple to understand.
Quite a useful application. Overall rating 4 star.
